Voki me!!

So, I found this great website called Voki that lets you create an Avatar and your voice to make a speaking message.  I thought it would be perfect for the poems we wrote in class.  Here's mine.  It's not a masterpiece... but I like it. I'll also cut and paste the code below, but it didn't work the last time I tried it.

How to set up a blog

Well, I just finished a short Screenjelly video to show my students how to create their own blog using their google accounts.

Hopefully, it's enough to get them through it. It's only about 3 minutes long and I think I hit all of the main points about creating it.  It may be a bit short... especially since screen jelly only gives you 3 minutes to do your thing.   The good news is that students can pause the video and re-watch it as necessary.

Here are the two I made.  One for creating the blog, and one about posting.

Blogging in the classroom.

My school district has announce a really amazing technology initiative.  I am really excited about this.  It actually coincides with my Masters in Education Integrated Technology quite well.
I have been learning about all kinds of amazing website and tools I could use in my classroom. Part of the problem is that there is soo much out there. I'm not quite sure where I want to start yet. Well... that's not entirely true.  I am leaning heavily towards having my students use Blogger (ta-da!) or Wordpress.  I like Wordpress because I can lock down the privacy tight on it and everyone's responses are all in the same place.

However, that being said, Google has soo much to offer with google docs, gmail, sites, blogger, etc.   Realistically, I'll probably end up going with google. I think it would be easier for students to remember 1 password and ID for many tools rather than many.
Now, if I could just find more time to play with all of these tools to see what works best.  I guess I can't be afraid to try something new, even though I may not be able to use computers as often as I would like. These are important skills that my students need to know.  As they say... if there's a will, there's a way.
